These are paintings of the human face and figure, covered, partly hidden, somehow refusing to be fully looked at. I never wanted to be seen but its not easy. The cost of a person to be seen on someone else's terms is high.
Expression under suffer, surfaces are made by hand, on layered and very cheap torn paper, in a moment when a machine can generate any image in seconds. A painted surface remembers the body that made it: the pressure, time, the material that fought back. The machine remembers nothing. Paintings are evidence of a hand, a room, a night. Made to be stood in front of.
Mixed media on layered paper. Acrylic, charcoal, pigment, torn and reworked surface.

Expression under suffer is made on the floor, at night, in a small apartment in Toledo. These images became part of the work.
